The dispute began when the neighbour, whose daughter shares the same name as the man's dog, asked him to rename his pet.
Name confusion
In a recent Reddit post, the dog owner explained that his pet's name is Charlotte. He has lived in his home for over a year, and his routine includes calling Charlotte to come inside from the backyard. This routine recently led to confusion when the neighbour misinterpreted the calls.
The man described a scenario where, after calling his dog, a neighbour shouted, "WHY ARE YOU CALLING MY DAUGHTER??" Shortly after, he reported the neighbour pounding on his door, accusing him of calling his daughter and demanding that he change his dog's name.
Name change request
The dog owner refused, stating that his dog had the name first and that he should not be pressured to change it. He also mentioned that the parent's job is to teach their child about safety, not his responsibility to rename his dog.
Many Reddit users supported the man's stance and criticised the neighbour's unreasonable demand. Comments advised the man to continue his routine and suggested legal measures if the neighbour's behaviour escalated. The general consensus was that the neighbour's request was unreasonable and disrespectful.
What do you think? Do you think the man should change his pet's name?
