Specialist search dogs have been dispatched from Madrid to assist in the search for missing British teenager Jay Slater.

19-year-old Jay Slater, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle near Blackburn in Lancashire, has been missing for nine days.

Nine days missing: An ongoing search effort

Jay Slater was last seen in Tenerife on the morning of Monday, 17 June. Jay had traveled to the northwestern mountain village of Masca after attending the NRG musical festival the previous night. Around 8:30 a.m., he called a friend to say he missed his bus and would walk back to his accommodation in the southern town of Los Cristianos, an arduous 11-hour journey on foot through mountainous terrain.

A desperate search intensifies

During the brief call, Jay mentioned he was lost, in need of water, and had only 1% battery remaining on his phone. Since then, police, mountain rescuers, and his family have been tirelessly searching for him. As the search enters its ninth day, the involvement of canine units from the Civil Guard's Cynological Service in Madrid marks a significant escalation in the efforts to locate Jay. Tenerife police confirmed the deployment, stating, "The Civil Guard continues with the search device for the young British man who disappeared in the Masca neighbourhood, belonging to the municipality of Buenavista del Norte (Tenerife)."

The specialized search dogs are trained to cover large areas of land and are expected to enhance the search operations significantly. The hope is that these canine agents will provide the breakthrough needed to find Jay and bring him back to safety. The community and authorities remain dedicated to the search, urging anyone with information to come forward.
