Since Sunday 14th of April, several cities in the United Arab Emirates, including Dubai, have been hit by heavy rain. In 24 hours, the equivalent of two years' rain fell on the desert capital, which is not equipped to evacuate so much water efficiently.
A shocking climatic event
With several roads completely submerged, as well as metro stations and shopping centres flooded, the city was quickly plunged into chaos in the face of this rainfall, which was the heaviest recorded since records began in 1949.
Many impressive images were posted on social networks, including a video of a cat in distress, which served as a reminder that animals also suffer the consequences of these climatic disasters.
A cat clings to a car to survive
In a street engulfed by water, a small black and white cat was spotted by police patrolling in a kayak. Clinging to a car door, the animal is fighting for its life to avoid being swept away by the current.
Gently picked up by the rescuers and placed on the boat, the terrified cat let out some plaintive meows before realising that he was finally safe.
The Dubai Media Office shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), pointing out that for them, every life counts.
