Toco was discovered completely by chance, left in a bag in a rubbish bin in Galicia, Spain.
The poor pup had been cruelly abandoned by his owner, and he was disoriented and scared.
Thrown away
The Chihuahua was discovered with serious injuries, in urgent need of veterinary treatment.
During their investigations, local police later discovered that Toco's owner had been quoted 700 euros in veterinary fees, which he was not prepared to pay. He reportedly then left his dog in the rubbish bin, believing he was dead.
Further investigations revealed that Toco sustained the injuries when he was attacked by the owner's other dog, an American Akita.
Saved by chance
Toco is lucky to be alive, and it's all thanks to his 24-year-old rescuer. It was complete chance that brought him to the discovery of his new four-legged friend, as he was actually searching for his stolen bag in the rubbish.
Instead, he found the little Chihuahua. As soon as he learnt of Toco's injuries, he decided to cover the veterinary costs himself, nursing him while he recovered from his wounds.
Toco's original owner is now being charged with animal cruelty, and faces a potential fine of up to 50,000 euros. Thankfully, the tiny survivor now has a loving home with his guardian angel.
