You never know who or what you can meet when going out for a swim, and that’s exactly what Wally, the Golden Retriever experienced.

Here is an unexpected meeting, to say the least...

Wally is a two-year-old Golden Retriever. He loves swimming above all else, and his family often take him swimming in Hickory Hills Lake in Lunenburg, Massachusetts.

Water loving pup

Wally is an excellent swimmer. But, his owners always make sure he wears a small life jacket with a shark fin so that he does not get too tired in the water when he goes swimming.

Once in the water, Wally’s owners throw sticks or balls at him, and the Golden retriever usually spends his time chasing after them; his owners have a lot of fun watching him.

His owner was watching Wally having fun in the water when she noticed something floating in the water next to her dog. At first, she thought it was a big stick, but that's when she witnessed this black shape jump up onto Wally's back.

An adorable encounter

Looking closely, the owner of Wally realized that it was actually a ... marmot! The adorable little rodent clung to Wally's back and let the dog guide him through the water.

Wally didn't care at all. He just looked over his shoulder a few times and continued to swim.

It must be said that Wally loves all the animals he meets. Once Wally made it back to shore, the marmot looked very grateful. The two animals looked at each other and touched each other's noses, as if to say goodbye!

It was an exceptional meeting that will be remembered for a long time!
