Anna-Marie Stevens and her husband Nigel were distraught when their dog Paul fell critically ill.
Seriously poorly pup
The once energetic pup was just nine months old when the couple discovered the dog may have ingested poison during a walk in Kismet Park in Canvey.
The couple learned that Paul would need urgent treatment to save his life, which would be very expensive. Fortunately, just a few weeks before, Anna-Marie had won £13,305 through the Postcode Lottery, and she was determined to spend every penny of it on Paul.
Sadly, despite the couple’s swift action and spending £2,500 on emergency vet care, Paul’s condition worsened. The couple sought further treatment at Southend Medivet, costing an additional £10,000. But tragically, their efforts were futile, as the young pup succumbed to chronic kidney failure.
Suspected poisoning
Anna-Marie and Nigel were understandably devastated by the loss. They don’t know exactly what it was that Paul had eaten that made him so gravely ill but are concerned he may have been deliberately poisoned.
Concerns have been raised about potential intentional poisoning in Kismet Park, with Anna-Marie pointing to the discovery of sandwich bags with dog food in the vicinity.
Residents fear these bags may contain harmful substances targeting dogs and rats. The grieving owner urged caution, expressing the hope that others would not endure the dreadful heartache she and her husband have faced.
