Dramatic home security footage captures the harrowing moment a woman plunged into a freezing swimming pool to save her dog.

The heart-stopping incident unfolded as Jennie Tatum’s two dogs played in the family’s back garden.

Desperate rescue

Sid’s misstep led to him slipping through the surface of the frozen pool and immediately becoming trapped. Fortunately, Jennie happened to see it happen and immediately sprang into action. The desperate owner courageously dove into the icy water, frantically smashing through the sheet of ice in an urgent bid to rescue her trapped canine companion.

The security footage vividly shows her determined efforts, hopping in and out of the pool, desperately searching for Sid. Finally, she found him but had to break more ice to reach him before lifting him out of the pool.

Sid wasn't moving and Jennie warmed him up by the fire, but even though he eventually came round, she knew something was wrong as the dog's gums and tongue were purple and in desperate need of oxygen. Rushing him to the animal hospital, the vet revealed that if Sid had been under the ice for any longer, he would not have survived.

The Tatum family shared the chilling video on Facebook, expressing gratitude for Jennie’s swift action and explaining that the pool pump had broken a week earlier, contributing to the freezing conditions. The good news is that Sid has recovered well from his ordeal but now avoids the back garden.
