Marv’s unusual vampire-like appearance stopped him from finding a permanent home, but then he met the Burger family, and his life would change forever.

Bre Burger and his wife Amanda first heard about Marv on social media when their friends shared a post about their latest canine foster and how they struggled to find a permanent home for him due to his genetic disorder and unusual appearance.

Special needs

The Burger family has a long track record of adopting special needs dogs, having adopted several dogs with disabilities over the last eight years. Concerned about the dog’s future, the couple decided to make him a permanent part of their family, recognising the special care he needed.

Marv’s distinctive physical features include overcrowded teeth, a short lower jaw, and a short tongue. But while he may look rather like a vampire, Marv’s personality is the complete opposite.

However, the loving and affectionate dog does have has his own way of communicating. His favourite way of expressing affection is through gentle nibbling on his family’s fingers, but they don't mind.

Lots of love

The Burgers have creatively addressed Marv’s feeding challenges, using a plastic syringe to provide water and feeding him with a spoon. Despite his feeding routine being a bit unconventional, Marv eagerly looks forward to mealtime. The family has joyfully documented Marv’s daily adventures on Instagram at Bigmarvandhisteefs, where they showcase his charming personality and unique quirks, describing him as a “little person in a dog’s body.”

While some people may consider Marv to be broken or ugly, the reality is he’s a beautiful, happy dog full of love.
