After spotting Maura alone and afraid in the yard, a concerned passerby contacted Saving Hope Rescue in Fort Worth, Texas.
Abandoned and alone
The poor dog was left alongside unwanted furniture and bags of clothes on the porch as her family relocated to Mexico, leaving her alone for at least four days. The abandoned dog’s well-being was deeply affected, with her confidence shattered as the security she had known for two years suddenly disappeared overnight.

Fortunately, a volunteer from Saving Hope Rescue, McKenzie Smith, responded to the call and rescued Maura, who had been left outdoors without food or water. Estimated to be around two years old based on her teeth, Maura now needs a foster or adoptive home.
Stray and abandoned pets
Saving Hope Rescue are all too aware of the desperate problem of stray and abandoned dogs in Texas. Nationally, 6.3 million pets are surrendered to US shelters annually, averaging 17,260 daily. Despite huge efforts to reduce euthanasia rates through adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programmes, and behaviour rehabilitation, approximately 920,000 animals are sadly put down each year.
Not surprisingly, many people left comments on the video expressing their contempt for Maura’s owners and relief that she was somewhere safe. It’s now hoped that it won’t take long before someone opens their heart and gives Maura the chance she deserves after enduring a traumatic few days.
