Sometimes all we want to do is help, but we end up causing more problems than we originally had. This is certainly the case for this man who tried to help a dog.

It all started outside of a supermarket in France.

A 34-year-old man walked by the store and spotted a Staffordshire Bull Terrier tied to a post.

To him, the animal looked very skinny because he could see his ribs. He, therefore, decided he needed to help. But instead of waiting for the owner to return to have a conversation with him, he instead decided to take matters into his own hands.

The man grabbed the lead and walked the dog back to his home. There, he fed the dog and cared for him for two whole days until the dog’s rightful owner finally traced his way back to his pet.

Man accused of dognapping

The owner was understandably upset that his dog had been “kidnapped” and did not care that the man thought he was helping. He decided to press charges against the “dognapper”.

Unfortunately for the man who took the dog under his wing, justice did not side with him in court. Indeed, he had already been in trouble with the law in the past, and was therefore incarcerated for the dognapping.

So, what is the moral of the story? If you see a dog that you think is being neglected, it’s probably best to get in touch with animal welfare groups or even the police. Getting involved yourself could get pretty messy!
