German Shepherds are one of the smartest dog breeds in the world. In fact, you can teach them to do just about anything.
This owner has clearly taken advantage of his pooch’s intelligence to teach her one of the coolest tricks in the book: “play dead”.
Cool trick to teach a dog
“Play dead” is not the easiest trick to teach. Your dog must already know basic obedience, including “lie down” and “roll over”. Your dog must also be willing and able to get him/herself into this potentially uncomfortable position. Remember, never force your dog to do something they’re not comfortable with!
On the other hand, if your dog is happy to cooperate, you can get amazing results, much like this owner achieved with his German Shepherd, Sam.
Play dead
When he points his finger at her and says “Bang!”, she lets out a yelp, ‘falls’ onto her back, and points all fours up into the air.
Though her performance is on point, she doesn’t look very distressed for someone who just got ‘shot’. She never takes her eyes off her dad, who’s holding a tasty treat in his hand, and when he congratulates her, she immediately stands and runs up to him with excitement.
Well done, Sam, you had us fooled for a second there!
