It doesn’t matter whether she’s eating, sleeping, doing chores around the house or playing with her pets, Steph is constantly under the attentive glare of her ginger cat, Wilbur.

When Steph adopted Wilbur, the cat, she began documenting and posting photos of a somewhat strange behaviour that she had never noticed being displayed by any other cats she owned: staring.

Indeed, Wilbur never lets Steph out of his sight.

Wherever she goes and whatever she’s doing, he’s always one step behind. He settles close by and starts staring. And keeps staring.

Viewers on Imgur proposed several different explanations for why Wilbur stares. Some say that because he is a rescue, he may be afraid of being abandoned again. By staring at Steph, he’s making sure she doesn’t vanish.

Different theories

Others suggest that Wilbur stares because he’s not completely comfortable in his new home yet, and would rather keep his eyes wide open for any potential danger. Once he settles in, he’ll stop the staring and go about his life as a normal cat.

Whatever the case, we think Wilbur’s staring is absolutely adorable!
