On Thursday 9th October, police officers in New York responded after several emergency calls were made to the Midtown precinct near Central Park.

Officers were alerted that a kitten was trapped beneath a food truck that was parked and operating.

When they arrived at the scene, there was a group of around 20 people gathered around the food truck. They were trying to help the kitten, without success.

A kitten in danger

The entire rescue was filmed by one of the police officers' body cameras. In the video footage, one of the two officers can be heard saying "Hello, sweetheart" to the cat, who was hiding behind a tyre.

The officers took turns trying to approach the kitten. One of the officers can be heard warning that the little cat "might scratch" if it was frightened by all the commotion. After a few minutes, the police officers managed to get the kitten out from under the vehicle, unharmed. They then took it back to their vehicle to keep it safe.

Good news

On the back seat of the police car, the little feline can be seen being held by one of the officers sitting in the front. "Smile for the camera," the officer says to it, laughing. He then brings the little cat closer to the police officer who pulled it out from under the lorry, saying: "Look who found you. This kind lad. This kind lad found you, sweetheart. You're so pretty, it's all right, you're safe."

That's not all! As well as being rescued safely, the kitten has also found a loving home: with the police officer who pulled it out from under the lorry. What wonderful news!
