Shelter dog can’t believe it when he’s adopted after 8 years

Dogs are fairly straightforward creatures. They want food, somewhere to sleep and plenty of fuss. But, while shelters can provide the first two, they can’t always provide the third.

Henry, the Labrador-German Shepherd cross is such a handsome boy that when he came to the Solingen animal shelter in Germany, shelter workers thought there’d be no problem finding him a home.

The long wait

Sadly, these things aren’t an exact science and despite his loving nature and gorgeous doggie good looks, Henry waited. And waited.

In fact, Henry waited for a long eight years before he found his forever home. The gorgeous pup must have thought he’d never have an owner to call his own.

But, there’s a wonderful silver lining to the tale and now Henry is happily cosied up in his new home.

The perfect family

What’s more, Henry knows his new owner and was delighted to be going with her to live out the rest of his days. His new family are dog mad and regularly volunteer to walk the shelter pups to give them a taste of normal life.

And, after many walks with Henry, the family decided they could squeeze one more into their brood – Henry will be joining a small pack of dog brothers and sisters.

A happy ending

The shelter workers are understandably delighted for Henry – although we’re sure they’ll be a little sad to see him go.

We wish Henry and his new family all the very best. See Henry, dreams can come true!
