They expected the cage to be empty – perhaps it was a donation? Or, in the worst-case scenario, someone had dumped their bird(s).
But it was much worse than any scenario they had expected. What they found inside was a heavily pregnant stray cat.
An unanticipated resident
It is assumed that the owner did not want to face the responsibility of caring for several cats and decided to abandon the pregnant queen instead.
While it is conceivable that people’s circumstances can change, we here at Wamiz always encourage those who can no longer care for their pets to drop them off at the shelter themselves. Shelter staff usually need valuable information about the animal that only the owner can provide, such as past illnesses, current medical needs, and behavioural problems. While in many cases, a cost is required to relinquish an animal, exceptions can be made when the owner is unable to pay.
A family of survivors
The poor girl was very shy, and it was not easy to get her checked out by a vet and settled into the cattery. However, she has been given a clean bill of health, and her kittens have since been born – and are all in good health too.
It is hoped that they will all find loving homes very soon.
