And because they knew Ryan would soon be leaving them, they asked Rideout Memorial Hospital for a special favour. That his dog Molly be allowed to come in and say goodbye.
Usually, dogs are not allowed in hospitals (except therapy dogs, of course). However, Rideout Memorial Hospital decided to grant the Jessen family this favour after hearing about Ryan and Molly's close bond.
A heart-wrenching reunion
So Molly could approach her beloved owner, whom she loved so much. It’s clear to see that the Boxer instantly knows something isn’t right. Instead of wagging her body with delight at seeing Ryan, she moves slowly, and gently.
She sniffs him with a look of worry and sadness on her face, then finally resigns to laying on his legs to keep him company until the very end.
The hardest of goodbyes
This is certainly a terrible tragedy for Molly and Ryan’s parents and sister, who uploaded the video to Facebook. But Michelle does reassure viewers of one thing which has warmed our hearts:
“Don't worry about the dog! We're keeping her!!! She's part of the family.”
We hope time has somewhat healed their wounds of grief. Our hearts go out to this courageous family!
