When Gregory the Beagle arrived at a rescue shelter it looked like he would face being put to sleep. But his life was saved thanks to the kindness of strangers.

Gregory the Beagle was two years old when he arrived at an animal shelter.

But instead of being put up for adoption, the shelter in America planned to put him down because the poor pup had heartworm disease.

Saved!

Just two days from being put down, Joe Kirk and his wife, Schenley Hutson-Kirk, heard about the poor pup's fate. They run Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary in Ohio, and their mission is to save dogs from euthanasia.

Once Joe had collected Gregory, it was as if the pup knew he was now safe. In a special moment during the car journey, he put his head on Joe's shoulder and cuddled up to him closely.

Happy ending

The couple took Gregory to the vet, and the lucky pup underwent a course of heartworm treatment. Gregory was then ready to be adopted. He found his forever home with a loving family who already had another Beagle, and who quickly became Gregory's best buddy.
