The little creature was making soft sounds and all sorts of meows to get her attention.
From that day on, a bond formed between the cat and Nikki. She learned that the cat's name was Miss B and that she belonged to her neighbour.
A special bond
Miss B became a regular visitor at her house. Nikki would give her plenty of cuddles and sometimes offer her a treat.
After each visit, Nikki would always take Miss B back to her owner and make sure he closed the door so the cat was safe and sound inside.
Then, Nikki started to notice that Miss B wasn't visiting anymore. This was strange, as they had been seeing each other almost every day.
She didn't understand why until she received a heartbreaking note from her neighbour, which she later shared on Reddit on 23rd September.
The sad truth
In a handwritten note, her neighbour explained that about a month ago, Miss B had fallen ill. The cat had either feline infectious peritonitis or advanced-stage cancer.
The neighbour explained: ”She seemed to show some improvement at first, but her tests a month later showed otherwise. She has since passed away peacefully at home with the help of a vet.”
The note concluded: ”I think good friends are hard to come by and I wanted to let you know how grateful I am that she had a friend like you. She loved your company and it made her life all the more fulfilling.”
The neighbour also included several photos of the brave little cat, which deeply moved Nikki.
She wrote in her Reddit post that even though Miss B wasn't her cat, it ”still hurts”.
Nikki's post touched the hearts of many online:
”She was beautiful, I'm so sorry for your loss!”
”I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm so glad her mum let you know what happened. I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to say goodbye. Be thankful that her pain is over, at least, and for every moment you had with her.”
