"Everything in this flat, I no longer want" and an estate agent makes the worst discovery

The discovery left volunteers heartbroken: a dog was found alone in an empty flat, with a note stating that everything inside was no longer wanted.

Lola Lou, a 9-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross, was taken in on 22nd July 2024 by Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare organisation. According to the charity, an estate agent discovered her in an abandoned flat, where she had spent five days alone with very little food and no water available. At the scene, a chilling note had been left: "Everything in this flat I no longer want".

After her rescue, Lola Lou was transferred to the Dogs Trust centre in Shoreham. The team began working with her straight away and started looking for a family. But the months passed and, despite all their efforts, no one has yet come forward to adopt her.

Over a year of waiting

To protect her wellbeing, Lola Lou now lives in foster care, away from the sometimes stressful conditions of a rescue centre.

Despite this brutal upheaval in her life, the team says Lola Lou has never stopped being gentle and loving. She constantly seeks out human company and is extremely affectionate. When she lacks attention, she becomes sad and withdrawn, a sign of her deep attachment to people.

Volunteers say they are "completely baffled" to see her waiting for so long, having thought she would quickly capture an adopter's heart. In May, a special speed-dating event was even organised for her, but no one turned up.

Faced with the situation, Dogs Trust decided to share her story again on social media. The Facebook post from 6th November sparked a strong emotional response, gathering over 2,300 likes, 247 comments and 205 shares. Many expressed outrage at the abandonment she suffered, whilst others simply wished for her to finally find her forever family. For now, Lola Lou remains available for adoption.
