In California, USA, firefighters from the city of Redwood City were contacted during the summer to help a dog in distress.
A drone used to survey the canal spotted the poor brown dog struggling to stay afloat.
The dog was reunited with his family
Once on the scene, the rescuers struggled to guide him in the right direction. But with patience, the dog began swimming towards the shore.
"Once the boat arrived on scene and the drone was positioned above the dog, he started moving away from both of them towards the shore. I was able to keep the drone close enough so that the dog stayed near the shore and didn't head back out into open water," the fire captain told The Dodo.
After managing to get the dog to safety, his family was contacted. A few hours later, the pooch was able to return home, much to his owners' relief.
