A few years ago, Ogün Öztürk, a vet, was visiting a small village in Turkey to treat a client's cow.
He hadn't planned to stay long, but as he was about to head home, something caught his eye.
A shadow in the snow
Intrigued, he watched for a few seconds as a shadow moved through the snow. Suddenly, he could make out the shape more clearly and realised it was a little girl struggling through the snow because she was carrying a dog on her shoulders!
Eight-year-old Cemre Su Türköz had heard that a vet would be there that day and she refused to miss her chance. So she made the entire journey with her dog on her back so the animal could be examined.
For over half a mile, the little girl walked with her dog, called Pamuk, on her back. He was wrapped up in a blanket to keep him warm.
A kind-hearted little girl
The vet immediately agreed to examine the little girl's dog and concluded that he was doing rather well. His "illness" could be treated easily with a worming treatment, much to the little girl's relief.
Since that day, Ogün Öztürk regularly visits the little girl to check on her dog and save her a long journey. And of course, he refused to charge her for the examination and treatment.
