Mochi was 13 years old when she went missing.
She was deaf and nearly blind. She had escaped through a small hole in the garden fence one afternoon in June.
Disappearance reported
Her owner reported Mochi's disappearance via the NextDoor app. To her great relief, a neighbour from the next street confirmed they had picked up Mochi and that she had been taken to a nearby rescue centre.
Upon arrival at the rescue centre, staff carried out an examination of Mochi before scanning her microchip. That's when the problems began. They tried four different devices, but unfortunately they couldn't scan her microchip...
Another owner
The problem was that the scanner had revealed another microchip: the one fitted by Mochi's previous owner. Ariel was in tears. She had spent eight years loving, training and caring for Mochi, but sadly her identification didn't allow her to come home.
The situation worsened when Ariel was informed that, despite no response to the phone numbers and addresses of Mochi's former owner, they would have to keep her on hold for 72 hours whilst waiting for someone to come forward.
She takes matters into her own hands
Ariel decided to take matters into her own hands. She contacted the rescue centre again and discovered, to her great relief, that they were the ones who had microchipped her. The rescuers therefore acted quickly, contacting the veterinary staff by telephone to confirm their willingness to surrender Mochi.
Ariel was therefore able to legally adopt her dog a second time. Mochi lived two more wonderful and peaceful years with Ariel before finally passing away at the age of 16.
