The storm that struck southern California brought torrential rain and caused extensive damage.
Several areas were devastated by mudslides and there were numerous car accidents.
A dog trapped
Sadly, a poor dog found herself trapped by the sudden rise in water levels following the storm. The dog was stuck in reeds on the edge of a canal northwest of Los Angeles, in the United States.
Firefighters were called in to rescue the dog. The video footage below shows the dog shaking all over and trying to cling on as best she can to avoid being swept away by the current.
A risky rescue
The firefighters positioned a ladder so they could climb down into the canal to rescue her. Once the firefighter was in the water, he was able to reach the dog and lift her up to bring her back to dry land.
Firefighters said the 19-pound female was cold but fortunately unharmed. Sadly, she wasn't wearing a collar or microchip, so the firefighters couldn't identify her owner. She appears to be around 3 years old. For now, she's resting at Camarillo Animal Shelter, where she could be adopted in the coming days if her owners aren't identified.
