This is a remarkable story that has moved millions of people online. Seven dogs, reportedly abducted by traffickers, travelled more than 10.5 miles across motorways and fields to find their way back to their village in north-eastern China.

It's an image the residents of Jilin province won't soon forget: a pack made up of a Corgi, a Golden Retriever, a Labrador, a German Shepherd, and a Pekingese, walking along a road.

According to local reports shared by Newsweek, the animals were allegedly captured by individuals involved in the dog meat trade. Miraculously, the dogs reportedly managed to escape by chewing through their cage inside the transport vehicle.

All the dogs were reunited with their families

Once free, the seven dogs decided to stick together. Surveillance videos and drone footage show that it was the Corgi who took charge of the little group.

In fact, the little dog can be seen frequently looking back to make sure no one was left behind.

After two days of wandering and covering 10.5 miles in a hostile environment, the pack finally reached their village on 18th March. Thanks to volunteers who monitored their progress from a distance to ensure their safety, all the dogs were returned to their respective owners, safe and sound.

A fake video

But if this story, which was shared around the world, seemed too good to be true, there's a good reason for it. It turns out to be a fake video created using artificial intelligence, as several media outlets revealed after a careful examination of the footage.

It's yet more proof of how important it is to be vigilant with online content.
