On the community website Reddit, a user shared the nightmare she's currently experiencing with her dog.
For 15 years, Oli had been an integral part of her family. As reported by People, the dog was adopted at 6 months old and had always been adored by the entire family.
The dog lived with the mother, sister and the user who shared the story. After both daughters finished their studies, the pooch continued living with their mum.
Questions about mental health
Life carried on for over ten years until a message turned the dog's world upside down. The owner of the family flat contacted the mother following complaints from neighbours about "barking and howling" as well as threats they'd overheard: "my mother was shouting at him 'I hope you die' and that she wasn't feeding him".
Following this message, the mother announced to her children that she wanted one of the two sisters to take Oli in.
Unfortunately, neither daughter could take him. One has several young children and an elderly dog who had already fought with Oli. The other lives 3,000 miles away, with three children, three dogs and a recently redundant husband.
A shocking decision
Faced with their refusal, the mother decided to abandon the dog. She didn't hesitate to lash out, telling her daughters it was "their fault if he died with people he didn't know".
Incredulous at the mother's reaction, internet users questioned her mental health: "It might be worth going to see your mum. Something's not right."
