In Fresno, USA, a nine-year-old dog named Nala had to return to the shelter after her owners moved away. The video of her arrival, shared on TikTok by a volunteer, touched many viewers who were heartbroken to see the dog realise she was alone again.
In the short clip posted on Monday by Jackie, a volunteer at Valley Animal Center, Nala can be seen clutching her butterfly-shaped toy. The text overlaid on the video simply explains: "Returned to shelter at 9 years old because her owners moved". Since then, the footage has already gathered nearly 8,000 views and around 2,000 likes on the social media platform.
A lively dog who needs time to adjust
According to Jackie, Nala gets along well with dogs and cats when she's on a lead and supervised. However, she sometimes shows less patience indoors or in enclosed spaces. She has lived with older children before but not in the past year.
"Her ideal home would be somewhere she could be the only pampered pet", the volunteer explains. "She's a dog full of character, a bit shy at first contact, but a real bundle of affection once she trusts you." Jackie also notes that having spent much of her life in a shelter, Nala will need time to adjust to a new home. Several meetings will likely be necessary before a permanent adoption.
