A passerby was walking down a street in Midtown Manhattan when he discovered a pushchair abandoned in the middle of the pavement.
Inside, there was an abandoned cat.
A heartbreaking note
An Animal Haven employee quickly rushed to the scene and felt his heart sink when he discovered a piece of paper attached to the pushchair. The note read: "Please find a home for Pumpkin, she's a lovely cat. She gets used to other cats in two weeks. I've recently become homeless, I can't look after her... I'm sorry."
Even though the shelter was at maximum capacity, the rescuers agreed to take the cat in. The elderly cat was fearful, but affectionate. It was clear that Pumpkin had been loved in her previous life.
Caring for animals
As sad as Pumpkin's story was, the Animal Haven team promised to keep her warm and safe until she found the perfect home. Since Pumpkin arrived at the shelter, she had slowly begun to settle into her new environment.
Even though she was still a bit disoriented by her new surroundings at the shelter, she was incredibly gentle with her rescuers. She was available for adoption and had already attracted some interest from visitors! The Animal Haven team hoped that Pumpkin would soon find a happy home. Until then, they would continue to shower her with the affection she desperately needed and the love she had always deserved.
