Amanda Mcsharry melted the hearts of dog lovers around the world, after she shared her dog's recovery journey from a sudden, unexplained paralysis.

"Soulmated so hard I carried her for three months", explained the devoted dog owner, as she shared her dog's incredible story to TikTok.

Amanda had returned from a holiday to find her Patterjack acting differently. A couple of days later, Ruby was completely paralysed.

A terrifying prospect

Ruby was admitted to the vet for overnight tests, including x-rays and an ultrasound to rule out cancer and toxoplasmosis.

Meanwhile, a distraught Amanda was home alone, facing the terrifying prospect of life without her beloved soul dog.

Step by step

After numerous tests, Ruby was diagnosed with polyradiculoneuritis. Also known as coonhound paralysis, the disease causes the body's immune system to attack the nerve roots that exit the spinal cord.

This can be caused by gastrointestinal infection or exposure to raw poultry and racoon saliva.

A veterinary nurse herself, Amanda was determined not to give up hope.

Using a backpack, a doggy wheelchair and a special harness, the loving owner helped Ruby walk for three long months. Step by step, she committed herself entirely to her pup's recovery.

Over time, she noticed Ruby had started to put her paws on the ground. And then, against all odds, something remarkable happened.

The brave little dog started walking by herself. Tiny steps and first - and she grew stronger day by day.
