Rescue staff rushed outside and quickly spotted the battered Amazon box.
Inside, they found three tiny kittens, cold, starving, and curled up on a cat bed. It was clear they’d been deliberately abandoned.
Terrified kittens inside
“The kittens were terrified,” said Kimberly LaRussa, the charity’s PR manager. “But the cat bed told us this was no accident.”
Staff immediately began searching the area for signs of the mother cat and found her hiding nearby, keeping a quiet watch over her babies. The whole feline family was brought to safety.
After being assessed by a vet at the main shelter in Blasdell, New York, the kittens were placed in temporary foster care at Thin Ice, a local business that regularly supports the rescue.
Future looks bright for kittens
Now named Dina, Abby and Ellie, the kittens are thriving in their sunny foster space, where passers-by can admire them through the window.
“The future is very bright for these cats,” LaRussa said. “For now, they’re just enjoying being kittens.”
