Brownie was taking a walk with his owner, Pidong Borromeo, when he suddenly stopped dead in his tracks.
He had noticed a tiny kitten on the side of the road.
A sad sight
Sadly, the little feline’s body was lifeless.
This is, unfortunately, not an uncommon sighting in Naga. Lots of strays mixed with traffic result in many lives lost on the roads. Borromeo therefore ignored the kitten, and continued to walk forward without giving it a second thought.
But his dog did no such thing.
Brownie approached the kitten and gently took it into his mouth. Borromeo knew something incredible was about to happen, so he pulled out his phone and began recording.
The sweetest goodbye
Brownie is then seen carefully carrying the little kitten to a quieter, more secluded place, away from the hustle and bustle of the road. With the kitten still in his mouth, he begins to dig the earth until he can make a little hole in the ground.
Once the hole is deep enough, Brownie deposits the tiny white kitten inside of it, and then begins to cover him with earth using his snout.
While this video touched thousands of people worldwide, and is without a doubt extremely touching, the truth is that this act of burial is quite a natural behaviour for a dog. Dogs usually do this with bones or treats to keep them fresh until they decide to return to it for an extra bite.
It's sadly less cute than what burial means to us – but we can still enjoy the pleasantness of this adorable video.
