The dog was visibly emaciated, cold, and terrified. With no food, water or shelter, he appeared to have been abandoned days earlier.
The walkers acted fast, calling the Zwolle animal ambulance, which arrived swiftly.
Dog was in a bad state
Volunteers managed to win the dog’s trust using treats before carefully freeing him. “He was in a bad state, but he eventually let himself be taken without resistance,” a volunteer said.
A microchip was found, offering hope of finding the owner, but it was unregistered.
Tragically, such cases are common in the Netherlands. Each year, hundreds of pets are deliberately abandoned in woods, fields, or by roadsides. “t’s beyond understanding,” said an animal ambulance worker. “This dog trusted someone, then was left to die.”
Investigation ongoing
Several people have reported recognising the bulldog, but he remains under investigation and is not yet available for adoption. A report has been filed with the animal police.
Now safe, the dog is receiving care, but the trauma of abandonment will take longer to heal.
The message from the story is clear: if you see something suspicious, report it.
