In March 2025, two small Chihuahuas were thrown out onto the street by the people who were meant to protect them.
Panicked and disoriented, they quickly caught the attention of several residents.
Makeshift shelter
Unable to take them in themselves, several neighbours came together to provide some basic comfort and safety for the Chihuahua duo, who were at risk of predation by coyotes.
Using cardboard boxes, an office chair, and blankets, the neighbours set up a small camp for the two dogs, who quickly understood that this space was there to keep them safe.
A rescue organisation comes to their rescue
Although the two little dogs had the support of the neighbourhood, everyone knew the situation wasn't sustainable long-term.
With a very real danger that the Chihuahuas might be attacked by coyotes or hit by a car, residents quickly contacted Logan's Legacy 29, an organisation who specialises in stray dog rescue.
Upon arrival, Suzette Hall, the organisation's manager, found them in their makeshift shelters.
The male dog was easily caught, but the pregnant female was very frightened. With years of experience in difficult rescue situations, Suzette knew exactly what to do.
She set food up in a trap cage, which didn't take long to attract the little dog. After just a few minutes, she was also safely secured.
Reunited in the cage, the Chihuahua couple now have a second chance at happiness. Thanks to the quick thinking of residents and the support of Suzette, the dogs will be cared for until they find a loving family of their own.
