After a life of neglect, a rabbit named Bertha not only found love but also an unexpected new role, caring for kittens.

Bertha was rescued from a severe hoarding situation, where she lived among 40 other rabbits in terrible conditions.

Luckily, she was taken in by Emily, an animal rescuer who fosters kittens and puppies. Emily regularly shares her experiences on Instagram as @emilythefoster, where Bertha’s incredible journey touched thousands.

Full of love

Despite her difficult past, Bertha was full of love. But what made her truly special was her surprising bond with kittens. She acted as a gentle nanny, offering them comfort and playtime and even grooming them as if they were her own.

Whether snuggling up for a nap or keeping watch over tiny paws, Bertha became an essential part of Emily’s foster family.

Sadly, at the end of 2024, Bertha passed away, leaving Emily heartbroken. However, her story continues to inspire, reminding us that love and kindness can come from the most unexpected places, even a rescued rabbit.

Emily continues to honour her memory, grateful for the time they shared and the kittens Bertha helped along the way.

RIP Bertha.
