A dog walker was admiring the view on a hike in Brighton, when he spotted a hole in the ground.
Cautiously approaching, he quickly realised something was moving around inside.
The lost sheep
The sheep was so firmly stuck in the hole, that only her head was visible.
Unsure how to help, he contacted the RSPCA, who quickly arrived at the scene.
"We are incredibly grateful to the dog walker who found her, as anyone could have easily missed her," they told The Dodo.
Inspectors managed to free the animal's legs, bringing her to safety. The sheep was severely malnourished and had likely been trapped in the hole for several days.
Fortunately, the lucky sheep was reunited with her owner, who promised to keep a closer eye on her whereabouts in future.
A helping paw
"We were able to lend a helping paw and pull her out to safety with no obvious injuries", explained the rescue organisation on Facebook.
"She's now back where she baaa-longs with her farmer, receiving some extra TLC!".
"Good work", commented a relieved animal lover, praising the team for the actions that lead to her rescue.
