Quick thinking officers saved the lives of two lucky pups in Pennsylvania last week, pulling them to safety just in time.
The scene unfolded right in front of shocked residents, who spotted the dogs on the pond and called the emergency services.
Brave acts of kindness
"We were met by one of the residents who pointed out the first dog on the far side of the pond with its two paws up on the ice", police officer Kevin Oreskovich told NBC10.
But while one dog seemed to have got himself to safety, the other black Labrador was in critical condition.
"Barely treading water and had its neck up to the ice", recalled Officer Birdsall.
The danger of frozen ponds
Thankfully, with the help of the residents and some improvisation, the officers managed to pull the two dogs back to land.
They are now safe and were luckily unharmed, but their ordeal is a reminded to other owners to keep a watchful eye on their dogs during the winter months. Some dogs may head straight to their favourite swimming spot on walks, which can become extremely dangerous when frozen over.
