Mike Lynch, a billionaire tech tycoon, believed that dogs possessed a "sixth sense" and could read human minds.

Lynch's body, as well as his teenage daughter's, were sadly found off the coast of Sicily after his superyacht capsized on August 20.

Many details of his life have come to light since then, including his conviction that dogs had psychic abilities. His beliefs led him to approach a journalist eight years ago, seeking assistance in launching a research project on this unusual topic.

Lynch's interest in canine intuition wasn't a passing fancy. He was deeply convinced that dogs could perceive human thoughts or intentions without relying on the usual sensory cues.

He conducted informal experiments, noting that his dogs would become excited precisely when he began his journey home after work, a phenomenon he found too consistent to dismiss.

Building a psychic dog database

Lynch believed the subject deserved scientific exploration, despite his firm grounding in science and skepticism towards paranormal beliefs. Jonathan Margolis, a consumer tech journalist, was approached by Lynch due to his prior work on psychic phenomena. Lynch asked Margolis to write a column inviting people to share their experiences with their dogs' "psychic abilities". He envisioned creating a database to study these occurrences further.
