Lily Allen has shared the heartbreaking reason she felt forced to part with her family dog, revealing the pet had caused significant disruption to her life.

The singer adopted the dog when moving into her New York townhouse, hoping to provide her children, aged 11 and 12, with a new companion. However, the situation quickly turned sour.

Mischievous pup

Speaking on her BBC podcast, Miss Me?, alongside Miquita Oliver, Allen disclosed that the dog had eaten all three of their passports, which included crucial visas. The incident occurred during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, complicating the already stressful process of replacing the documents.

Allen, who shares her children with ex-husband Sam Cooper, said the ordeal left her unable to take them back to the UK to see their father for nearly five months.

Returned to adoption centre

The logistical nightmare and financial burden led Allen to make the difficult decision to return the dog to the adoption centre. "I just couldn't look at her," she confessed. "I was like, 'You've ruined my life.'"

While Allen's honesty has drawn sympathy from some, it's likely that her decision may not sit well with dog lovers, who may find it difficult to reconcile the challenges of pet ownership with such a drastic step.
