Ricky Gervais is creating a new animated series about a group of cats, as revealed in a recent social media post.

The project will see the actor, writer, producer and comedian reunite with the cast of his acclaimed show, After Life.

Star voice cast

Gervais, a proud cat owner, shared an image of the cast recording their lines in a studio. The photo features After Life actors Kerry Godliman, David Earl, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan, and Tony Way. Also pictured were Ricky Champ from Him & Her and EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy.

While the show's title and broadcast details remain under wraps, Gervais had previously hinted at the project last year. He responded to an online question, saying, “We started it, and it’s gonna take a long time ‘cos it’s animation. It won’t be finished until next year.

He humorously added, “I did animation ‘cos I thought, ‘I’m getting old now’ and filming is a hard slog. I thought, ‘Animation, that’s easy.’ It’s not. I’ve been a fool.

Other projects in the pipeline

In addition to his animation projection, Gervais recently announced his new world tour and Netflix special, Mortality. Commenting on its theme, he said, “We’re all gonna die. May as well have a laugh about it. Mortality looks at the absurdities of life. And death. Bring it on.”

Gervais' previous Netflix special, Armageddon, was released on Christmas Day last year. It earned a Golden Globe and set the record for the highest-grossing comedy gig ever.
