A puppy owner in New Rochelle, U.S. was unexpectedly caught on camera as she committed an unthinkable act - abandoning her Labrador Retriever puppy by the side of the road.
Caught in the act
It was a tiny door camera that captured the shocking scene. The clip, which was later handed to the authorities as evidence, shows the woman getting out of her car and lifting her puppy to the ground.
The adoring pup innocently tries to follow her owner as she gets back in the car, but the woman drives away without hesitation.
An important update
Neighbours eventually found the puppy, who hadn't been microchipped.
Rosie, as she was later named, was taken in and adopted by a loving family from the area.
For her owner, things took a turn she never expected. The footage helped the police locate her, and with a shelter only 5 minutes away, she was charged with animal abandonment.
"We will never understand how someone could so callously abandon a defenseless animal, and are so thankful to the good samaritan who found her", explained Shannon Laukhuf of SPCA Westchester.
