Rupert is a stunning Alaskan Malamute, who was born in China.
Shockingly, when his owner grew tired of him, he tried to sell Rupert to the meat market in Beijing.
Emergency rescue
Thankfully, rescue organisation No To Dog Meat found out about Rupert's story, stepping in to save him from this cruel end.
For the last 10 years, No To Dog Meat has worked tirelessly to raise awareness and to help rescue dogs like Rupert, offering them a second chance in life.
They arranged all the necessary veterinary treatment and got to work finding Rupert a forever home.
An incredible journey
When Nikki saw the poor pup's profile, she knew she had to help him. Even though they were 1,600 km apart!
The dog lover showed no hesitation in making the necessary arrangements, driving from her home in Yorkshire, England to Paris to meet him when he landed.
Since arriving home with Nikki and her family, Rupert's personality has started to shine through. Affectionate, playful and very well-behaved, it seems unthinkable that his original owner just left him to die.
Despite all the horrors he's experienced and his scary start in life, this gentle giant never stops smiling!
