A dog hit who was hit by a train and endured three long, gruelling days trapped on the tracks faced a grim fate until officers sprang into action.

Sadly, it's not uncommon for dogs to find their way onto the track and be struck by a passing train. However, most pups normally don't survive.

Survived against the odds

So when an engineer first spotted this dog, they presumed the poor pup had met a similar fate. However, when they spotted the dog the second time on the same day, they realised that things might be different this time.

To the man's utter amazement, the dog was still alive. He immediately called for help.

On receiving the call, Wagoner County Deputy Justin Hutton and Captain Brad Harding from Oklahoma law enforcement raced to the scene.

The dog was trapped by the train's impact, unable to free himself, and endured a harrowing ordeal without food or water. Remarkably, he survived multiple trains passing over him, estimated to be as many as twenty, by laying low each time.

Rescue operation

Bodycam footage captured the heartwarming rescue as officers carefully removed the injured animal from the railway line after shutting down the train line operations. Deputy Hutton's supply of dog treats came in handy to help calm the frightened pup during the rescue operation.

The officers wrapped the dog in a blanket and took him for some much-needed veterinary care. The dog is now in the custody of a family member, where it's hoped he can recover from his ordeal.

Just remember, keep your dog well away from train tracks. This dog was only saved in the nick of time.
