The day started out much like any other for a runner in Sretton, Derbyshire.
But things quickly took a surprising turn, when they spotted a terrified figure cowering in the bushes.
An urgent rescue
The kind samaritan immediately contacted their local RSPCA branch, who sent a team of welfare officers to the scene.
On arrival, they found a Doberman puppy, who had been abandoned in appalling conditions.
The 10-month-old puppy was frightened and in need of urgent veterinary treatment.
On the road to recovery
Now named Dobby, the puppy is currently resting and recovering from his traumatic ordeal.
Given his condition, the team believe he had been left to fend for himself for quite some time. They have issued an appeal for anyone with information about the case to come forward.
"We are urging anyone with information about how Dobby ended up in this condition to contact our helpline", wrote the RSPCA in a post they shared on Facebook.
Now shared over 1,000 times on the social media platform, the pup received a number of well wishes from supporters across the UK.
"Absolutely heartbreaking. Thank you for rescuing this sweet baby", commented one viewer.
Thanks to the RSPCA, Dobby will now have a second chance at happiness, surrounded by the love and care of a family of his own.
