During a mission in the Middle East, American soldiers stumbled upon a distressing sight none of them will ever forget.

The soldiers stumbled across a small dog, paralysed in her hind legs, stranded on the roadside amidst a pile of refuse.

Paralysed back legs

The dog, named Tammy, seemed to tremble in fear, pain or both while her eyes pleaded with the soldiers for help.

A video shared online showed Tammy struggling to move, dragging her hind legs behind her.

Recognising her dire situation, the soldiers provided food, but their military base couldn't accommodate her needs. Determined to help, they made her a little shelter and gave her food and water.

But Tammy wanted to be with the kind soldiers and one day dragged herself down the road to their military base to find them.

Hope for Tammy’s future

The soldiers reached out to New York-based Paws of War for assistance. Through the organisation's War-Torn Pups and Cats programme, efforts have started to rescue Tammy and bring her back to the US, with fundraising initiatives underway to support her journey.

Despite her inability to wag her tail, Tammy's gratitude towards her rescuers is clear in the video.

As Tammy's rescue progresses, hopes are high that she will soon find a loving forever home where she can receive the care and comfort she deserves.
