A Chihuahua found himself at an animal shelter after his owner passed away, leaving the pup bereft. But at least he still had his cherished blue blanket.

When his owner died, the 12-year-old Chihuahua named Scooter had no one to care for him, so he ended up at the animal shelter in Michigan.

Comfort blanket

Still grieving for his beloved owner, Scooter only found comfort in his blue blanket adorned with stars, a souvenir from his former happy life.

The sight of Scooter’s nightly ritual of curling up in the blanket, his immense grief and his deep longing for a family to love again broke the hearts of the shelter staff.

They were determined to find him a new home. But they also knew that his age and hip issues would make it a difficult task.

Fortunately, fate would soon intervene after a photo of Scooter cuddled up in his beloved starry blanket went viral on Facebook. It led to an outpouring of love and offers of adoption. Among the flood of inquiries, Jessica Lynn Howard was the lucky person to become Scooter’s saviour.

Happy ending for Scooter

Jessica Lynn was thrilled to welcome Scooter into her family of five dogs, two of whom she adopted from the same Michigan shelter. Now settled into his new home, Scooter continues his blanket ritual, perhaps showing he still remembers his former owner.

The shelter took to Facebook to share their delight at Scooter’s newfound happiness and thanked everyone for support and donations towards his medical care and the welfare of the shelter’s other animals.

Scooter’s story sparked a surge of interest in adopting senior dogs, showing that every dog, regardless of their age, deserves a chance to have a loving home.

Congratulations Scooter!
