What from a distance looked like two bags of luggage hanging off the back of the truck, actually contained very precious, live cargo.
A shocking sight
Packed right to the roof, the driver may have been struggling to find space in his car. But even if this were the case, it could never excuse the unthinkable decision to carry his dogs in the way that he did.
The poor pups were stuffed into the two bags, that he then attached to the sides of the vehicle.
Clearly disoriented and frightened, the scene left many drivers in shock as they travelled that day.
Mr. Xu, who was a witness on the 2nd of February, believes the truck was travelling home after Lunar New Year celebrations.
Pet welfare
Dogs were only actually recognised as pets in China in 2020, when they were reclassified by the government.
It remains to be seen whether the driver will face any legal consequences for his actions. We just hope the dogs survived their wild ride and made it home safely!
