As temperatures plummet in Krakow, Poland, an animal shelter launches “Operation Frost”, looking for temporary homes for its 300 dogs.

With temperatures expected to reach minus 20 degrees, the KTOZ Shelter for Homeless Animals in Poland cannot accommodate all the animals indoors, so it asked the community to help ensure the well-being of its furry residents.

Hope for shelter dogs during freeze

The response from the local community was overwhelming. The shelter witnessed an extraordinary turnout as animal lovers queued for hours following the call to adopt or temporarily house dogs.

Operation Frost was so successful that 120 pups found warm homes, much to the delight of shelter workers.

While city police helped manage the influx of well-wishers, they even adopted an adorable brown dog named Mombaj.

Heartwarming support

But despite the shelter’s eagerness to find homes for the animals, they still did due diligence, ensuring that the dogs and people were suitably matched. Staff now hope these newfound homes will become permanent for as many dogs as possible.

With the dogs safely sheltered from the cold, the KTOZ Shelter for Homeless Animals suspended the operation on Sunday while thanking the community’s heartwarming support. They also urged people to assist other shelters facing similar challenges.

The shelter’s announcement marked the end of a “beautiful and emotional day,” showcasing the power of community solidarity in ensuring the welfare of these four-legged friends during challenging weather conditions.
