Without explanation, the dog’s owner heartlessly left the defenceless canine tied to a stairwell, accompanied only by a bowl of food, a playpen, and a bag.
Fortunately, the distressed and confused puppy was eventually discovered by some concerned passersby who contacted the Amicus Canis shelter - Foundation for Harmed Animals.
Distressed and alone
While it's sadly an all too familiar scenario for shelter staff, especially around Christmas, they took to Facebook to share their dismay and urge anyone who has information about the puppy or its owner to come forward. They also warned that abandoning animals is punishable by law and something the shelter will continue to fight against.
Responsible adoption
Outrage and disbelief flooded the comments section from animal lovers, condemning the heartless act, particularly at this time of year.
Despite the puppy’s ordeal, the shelter returned to Facebook with some good news. Thanks to all the online attention, the abandoned puppy, revealed to be a healthy female, has found a new home.
While stressing the importance of responsible adoption and the countless animals desperate for a caring home, the Foundation explained that the puppy will leave the shelter microchipped, undergo veterinary check-ups, and receive preventive care.
