The Jack Russell was left confused, terrified and at serious risk of being run over.
Callous act
When the incident was shared online, the local and social media community was horrified by the heartless act, which took place on a country road between Lehrte-Sievershausen and Peine-Vöhrum in Germany.
Nicknamed "Tramp," the little canine managed to elude searchers for days, staying just ahead of them. Despite several sightings, Tramp escaped each time, prompting a multi-day search operation led by dog safety services and volunteers.
Fortunately, the saga eventually reached a positive conclusion when rescuers finally secured the dog in a live trap. The hungry dog later revealed to be named Cooper, was chipped, allowing animal rights activists to locate his family from Ghent, Belgium.
Mystery about Cooper
The mystery deepened as it was discovered that Cooper had fallen into the Anderten Mittelland Canal lock near Hanover during a family stop. It's believed a driver had picked up the dog and transported Cooper from Anderten before ejecting him in Peine due to the terrier's motion sickness.
His owners, who had believed he was probably dead, were overjoyed to be reunited with their lively pet, now recovering from the ordeal in a local animal shelter in Hämelerwald.
