A woman grappling with the pain of a recent miscarriage experienced a remarkable display of empathy from an unexpected source: her dog.

Cassandra Hess had just begun the emotional task of putting away the belongings of her angel baby, Oakley when her four-legged companion sensed the depth of her sorrow.

Immense grief

Cassandra, who had joyfully anticipated the arrival of her second child, suffered the devastating loss of Oakley at 18 weeks into her pregnancy. The profound grief that followed was momentarily lifted when her faithful canine companion approached the basket containing Oakley’s belongings.

In a heartrending moment captured on camera and shared on social media, the dog’s sensitivity to his owner’s feelings is clear. As Cassandra took a blanket from the basket, the pup’s gaze shifted toward her with a look of recognition. Without hesitation, he showers her with comforting kisses.

Here's the remarkable video (you may need a tissue):

@cassandrahess_ The worst pain I’ve ever felt😔💔I delivered my son sleeping at 18 weeks almost a week ago. I was recording myself looking through his stuff for the last time before I put it away. This was the first time my dog saw the basket. I wasnt sure if he would understand, but he did🥺 #miscarriage #miscarriageawareness #latemiscarraige #latemisscarageawareness #angelbaby ♬ Je te laisserai des mots - Patrick Watson

Cassandra, touched by the unexpected comfort from her dog, shared the video to support others navigating the difficult terrain of grief.
