News of Matthew Perry's death on Saturday has shocked and devastated many, with family and friends paying tribute to the life of the beloved "Friends" star.
Law enforcement officers were called to his Los Angeles home after he was found unresponsive in his hot tub, but a cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
Heartbroken friends
Perry's five cast mates made the following statement:
The actor had been open about his struggle with opioid and alcohol addiction over the years, but maintained he was sober in many recent interviews. While no illegal drugs were found at the property, prescription medication was at the premises, leading to speculation that perhaps these, combined with the warm water, had a tragic consequence.
Adopting Alfred
When Perry adopted doodle mix Alfred back in 2021, it was clearly love at first sight. Taking to Instagram to announce the arrival of his new four-legged friend, he wrote, "this is me and @alfreddoodleperry. Who's cuter? Don't answer that".
In light of his owner's death, fans took to social media to express their concern for the pup, with one writing, "so sad for this beautiful pup. Praying he is taken care of after this tragic loss. Rest in peace Matt".
Rumours had started circulating online about Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), who was supposedly considering adopting Alfred. However, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that Perry did not actually own a dog at the time of his death. Indeed, Perry had adopted Alfred with his ex fiancé Molly Hurwitz. When they separated, she took Alfred with her.
